Course Aim:
A half day awareness course designed to introduce/update all staff to the subject of Epilepsy and the understanding of Seizures including how and when to administer emergency medication.
Course Duration:
3 Hours
Who Should Attend:
All staff within the position of assisting any Vulnerable Adult and any member of staff that is assisting or working with any individual’s with diagnosed Epilepsy.
Contents of Course:
- Have an understanding of epilepsy its causes and the treatments available
- Have an understanding of the different types of seizure
- Have an understanding of the effects of epilepsy on individuals and their families
- Be able to implement care plans, assess risk to provide a safe environment for people with epilepsy
- Know First Aid actions to take
- Recognise an emergency situation and act appropriately
- Understand the importance of record keeping in relation to epilepsy
- Have an understanding of the administration of rectal diazepam and buccal midazolam in accordance with the JEC (2005&2005) guidelines
