Objectives:
- Recognise Health & Safety requirements of the classroom environment
- Understand the roles & responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
- Understand how to provide first aid to an infant or child with Anaphylaxis
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant or child with external bleeding
Content of the Course:
Understand the roles & responsibilities of the paediatric first aider:
- Define responsibilities of paediatric first aider
- Minimise risk of infection
- Describe protection equipment & how to use safely
- Identifying information that should be included in reports
- Reporting procedures
- Purposes of first aid treatment
Be able to assess an emergency situation safely:
- Scene Surveys
- Primary survey for infant & child
- When to call for help
- Necessary information to be given when obtaining assistance
Be able to provide first aid to an infant or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally:
- When to administer CPR
- Administer CPR using manikin
Be able to provide first aid to an infant or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally:
- Consciousness Levels
- Recovery Position
- Recovery position monitoring
- Assisting an infant and child in seizure
Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction:
- Identify severity of obstruction
- Choking
Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child with Anaphylaxis:
- Common Triggers
- Recognising Anaphylaxis
- How to administer first aid for a infant and a child with Anaphylaxis
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock:
